Welcome to the Midwest Sociological Society Website
Who We Are
Founded in 1936, MSS is a membership organization of academic and applied sociologists as well as students of the discipline. About 2/3 of the 1200 members live in the Midwest, but membership is open to all; and about 1/3 of the members are from other parts of the nation and the world.
Organized in 1936, MSS held its first annual meeting in 1937. In 2011-12, MSS celebrated 75 years of scholarship and collegiality at its annual meeting in Minneapolis.
MSS
- holds a 4-day annual meeting each spring
- funds grants and awards to its members
- and offers leadership opportunities.
We invite you to join us!
Are you a clinical
or applied sociologist?
Are you a clinical or applied sociologist? The Sociological Practice Committee wants to hear from you. We are always looking for ways to encourage participation of clinical and applied sociologists, and others involved in sociological practice, in the annual meeting. So, send us an email with your contact information so we may update our members/practitioners list.
Please put 'soc practice' in the subject line and email contact names to MSS exec office.
Wiley-Blackwell, publisher of MSS's journal, The Sociological Quarterly, has launched a smart-phone for sociologist. "Sociology Spotlight" is available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Among other things, the new app contains abstracts for MSS's own TSQ. It is free and available for download at the iTunes store.
